190 || [Solo] A Beginner's Guide for How to be a Great Podcast Guest || Merritt Onsa

Have you ever considered being a podcast guest? You’re probably not surprised to hear that there are 1.75 million podcasts in the world (according to Podcast Insights) and that number is growing daily! This episode will teach you how to pitch yourself, the techy details you need to know about sound, and how to prepare to be the best podcast guest you can be so you can share your message with a wider audience.

IF YOU WANT TO START TALKING ABOUT YOUR DREAM ON PODCASTS, THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU!

It seems there’s a podcast for everyone these days, and the number of podcasts is multiplying faster than you can say “Devoted Dreamers.” But have you ever thought about pitching yourself as a podcast guest? If not, you should at least give it some thought as you listen to this episode.

You might believe your dream is too obscure or that no one would want to have you on their show (that’s imposter syndrome talking, by the way!) but trust me when I say neither of these is true! Podcast hosts are looking for the right guests who will share a compelling story, teach an important lesson or inspire their audience.

In fact, I just finished beta testing my brand-new podcasting course with Natalie Arent, and we personally trained the hosts of three up-and-coming podcasts that are launching in the next month—all of which will have guest interviews.

A few more stats in case you're not convinced that podcasting is a great way to get your message out:

  • 55% of the US population has listened to a podcast (Infinite Dial 2020)

  • 68 million people say they listen to podcasts weekly (Infinite Dial 2020)

  • 16 million in the US say they are “avid podcast fans” (Nielsen Q1 2018)

in this episode You’ll learn:

  • Why you should consider being a podcast guest,

  • How to find the right podcasts to pitch,

  • How to pitch yourself and the one thing you MUST understand before you do,

  • How to prepare for the interview itself,

  • A few sound tips for the non-techy among us, and

  • What to do during and after the interview, including my favorite tips to make sure your voice sounds full of energy even if you’ve been sitting quietly at your desk all day!

Even if you’ve never considered being a guest on a podcast, this episode will prepare you to put your best foot forward when the opportunity comes your way!

MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:

Actually, this was not mentioned in the episode but this is a great resource my editor shared with me about how to use your voice and includes some great vocal warm up exercises, starting at ~4:17:
