Is the timing right for my dream?
I hear this question all the time in my conversations with women who have a dream on their hearts but who also have a list of other responsibilities and interests that take up the majority of their waking hours.
How do you determine the “right” timing to pursue a passion project? If your life is already full, how do you decide when to adjust your commitments so you can shift into what’s possible for the future?
YOUR TIME IS PRECIOUS, SO INVEST IT IN WHAT MATTERS
In this segment, I’m helping you answer these questions and teaching you how to avoid the common mindset mistakes that often accompany questions about the timing of your dream.
If this sounds like something you’ve struggled with, I hope this episode will provide clarity, but there’s a bit of work you need to commit to first to get there, so I’ve also provided some reflection questions as a journaling exercise towards the end. You can learn more about that in the show notes, but you’ll want to listen all the way through to the end of the episode to hear my explanations about those.
Following the journaling questions, I invite you to consider a 1:1 coaching relationship with me in order to address some of those topics and help you determine if it’s time to move toward your God-shaped dream.
Even if you’re not sure that hiring a coach is really the thing that will help you make some progress, reach out to me via my Book a Call link and let’s have a 30-minute conversation to talk about what you need, what coaching with me looks like, and how I can help you take the next step.
If you’ve felt anxious about starting or worried about the timing of your dream, I’m confident there’s hope and reassurance for you in this episode.

WORKING THROUGH THE QUESTIONS:
Steps to Determine the Right Timing >>
I walk you through this in the episode but some of the details are here to get you started.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to number my days.
Lord, give me a heart of wisdom.
Lord, show me if I’m making excuses to avoid confronting my own fears
Action Items:
Take inventory of all the things you do currently, and everything you’ve said yes to for the future:
· Look at your calendar and document your major responsibilities/commitments
· For a specific timeframe (one month or one week, whatever fits your situation best):
o Track your time for each of the above responsibilities
o Track how much time you currently spend on your dream
o Track how much time you currently spend on social media
o Track how much time you currently spend listening to podcasts, watching tv, Netflix, etc.
· Examine the reality of your calendar without judgment
· Afterwards, sit down with a friend or mentor to talk through what you’ve done
· Assess whether you’re more afraid or more excited to pursue a dream, then:
o Check your resistance (reflection questions are mentioned in the episode)
o Check your desires (reflection questions are mentioned in the episode)
PIN IT FOR LATER:
Scripture:
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
~ Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
Parable of the Rich Fool
And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
~ Luke 12: 16-21 (NIV)
Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.
~ Proverbs 27:1 (NIV)
“Come,” each one cries, “let me get wine!
Let us drink our fill of beer!
And tomorrow will be like today,
or even far better.”
~ Isaiah 56:12 (NIV)
“The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?
“I the Lord search the heart
and test the mind,
to give every man according to his ways,
according to the fruit of his deeds.”
~ Jeremiah 17:9-10 (ESV)
