In 2013, Rachel Dodson left her life in New York City and moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Her mission: to create a social enterprise jewelry company--called Penh Lenh--that would empower marginalized and at-risk young women by providing education, skills training, and advanced career opportunities. Rachel believes that through designing bold, colorful, and unique pieces, Penh Lenh is creating a platform for so much more. She sees every day as an opportunity to educate, empower, and impact not only her staff but also the community around her.
IF YOU HAVE EVER FELT SCARED WAITING ON GOD TO OPEN THE DOORS TO YOUR DREAM, THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU.
In our conversation, Rachel shares what it’s been like to move to a foreign country in pursuit of her God-shaped dream and how she has seen Him show up to bring it to fruition. She educates us about what life as a woman—and employment for women—looks like in Cambodia and how a company like Penh Lenh can make a difference there. She’s honest about the challenge of relinquishing control over her dream but how doing just that has given her more freedom than she could have imagined.
